Graduated from Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional in Portugal where she had contact with different dance styles from classical and contemporary to Tap. She began her studies in Tap dance by 2002 with Michel. By 2011 she received her first scholarship by Cristina Delius, director of the International Tap Dance School in Berlin (Tap Beat Center). She has attended festivals all over the world from Tap Beat Berlin, Tap Festival Stockholm, Barcelona and Milan and had workshops with Jason Samuels Smith, Cristina Delius, Cartier Williams, Joseph Wiggan, Michelle Dorrance, Chloe Arnold, Nicholas Young, Josette Wiggan Freud, Guillem Alonso, Sarah Reich, Acia Gray.

Since 2014 Joana teaches tap at SwingStation and Dancespot in Lisbon, Portugal.
